Mind Blowing Facts About The FIFA World Cup, 2014

The 2014 World Cup is being held in Brazil this year. The ceremony kicked off on 12th June with a colorful ceremony before Brazil, the hosts, beat Croatia 3-1. 32 nations in total will compete in 64 games and may the best country win. As the games continue, here are 9 mind blowing facts about the 2014 World Cup that you didn’t know:

1. Goal-line technology will be used for the first time in history
Due to the controversies that have sometimes surrounded world cup goals in the past years, the referee will now be able to tell if a goal is scored. 14 cameras have been set up where 7 of these focus on one goal and the other 7 on the opposite one. These are then connected to a central mainframe computer that analyses each goal. The referee feels a vibration when the match ball crosses the goal line. A visual sign ‘Goal’ appears on a special watch he will be wearing on his wrist. No more Lampard situations anymore!

2. Drones and US robots will be used

For safety purposes, Israeli drones and Robots will be used. The unmarked drones will monitor the crowds for security and defense purposes. PackBot 510 robots used in the US military will also be used to protect tourists and citizens. These can be operated remotely and will detect and examine any suspicious objects. They also explore any dangerous environments. To enhance security, they will also use facial recognition camera glasses, high tech surveillance equipment, helicopters with thermal cameras and night vision and Brazilian Armed Forces soldiers.

3. A paraplegic teenager Took The First 2014 World Cup Kick

The paraplegic teenager had on a mind controlled exoskeleton suit. Though paralyzed from the waist down, the suit helps them feel the kick due to sensory feedback. The suit helped the kid stand up from his wheelchair, walk to the midfield and take the kick. This is a huge technological step and wheelchairs may one day cease to exist.

4.‘Darth Vadar’ police

World Cup Tournaments have been held since 1930. 19 of them have been held but only 8 countries have ever won. They include Brazil, Italy, Spain, England, Germany, France, Argentina and Uruguay. Brazil has won five times, Italy Four times, Germany thrice, Uruguay and Argentina twice while England, Spain and France have each won once.

6. Strange demands by the teams

You think superstars have strange demands, wait till you hear what the football teams asked for during the World Cup. Some of the craziest things demanded include:

  • Portugal demanded 6 security guards with two assigned to Cristiano Ronaldo.
  • France demanded two types of liquid soaps: one for washing hands and the other for showering. The players’ room should also be identical even in color.
  • Uruguay demanded that each room should have silent air-conditioning units.
  • Algeria wanted each room to have a Quran.
  • Ecuador demanded every room should have an everyday basket of Ecuadorian bananas.
  • Japan wanted a Jacuzzi in each room
  • Germany on the other hand didn’t like the accommodations provided and went ahead and built their own World Cup Hotel and training camp. Beat that!
7. Bazuka ball

Adidas designed this year’s World Cup named ‘Bazuka’. ‘Bazuka’ is slang for national pride and the name was chosen by fans. The ball maintains it roundness and weight even in the thickest of weathers. It also produces faster flight speeds. The ball also has an innovative camera that uses six different lenses to capture a 360° view of the action on the field.

EDIT : The chances of the ball with the cameras to be used in the actual matches is very less. They were put in just a few of the balls to make a montage of players having a kick-about which will be released as a promotional video for the WC2014.

8. It’s the most expensive World Cup ever

Brazil was not holding back in terms of expenditure when it came to preparing for the World Cup. It’s the most expensive with over 14-16 billion dollars used. In fact, it’s more expensive than the combined cost of the last two world cup events held. Costs incurred were from transport, stadiums and security. The Brazilians were not too happy about this considering their economy and they took to the streets about the issue.

9. “All In One Rythym” is the official slogan

The 2014 World Cup slogan is “Juntos num só ritmo” in Portuguese translated as “All in One Rhythm” in English. It refers to the Brazilian culture that has rhythm everywhere.

What You See Here Are Not Photographs, But Actually 3D Renderings Of Human Beings—All Generated On A Computer.

These are not real photographs! They are a stunning collection of computer generated images created by professionals.

A reddit user(r
epublicrats) shared these images on Imgur. He named the collection, “3D Renderings of Humans” and they elicited strong reactions from some of Reddit users. It’s hard to believe that these images are not captured by camera. The expressive eyes, textured hair, scattering light to the skin, subtly rendered makeup, realistic clothing and amazing backgrounds are astonishingly lifelike. The images look like they were taken from real life.

3D rendering is the process of creating a 2D video or image from a 3D model with the help of 3D computer graphic rendering software. As technology advances, it’s getting easier to produce better 3D images using the help of programs like Sculptis and Lightwave. This in turn is opening up a load of opportunities in video games production, film creation and many more.

7 Year Old Former Bully Now An Anti-Bullying Campaigner

People rarely admit to being bullies but this second-grader has taken an effort at amending his ways and the action is melting people’s hearts. “It's not too late to change," he says.

Cameron Thompson, a Tournament Hills Elementary student in Beaumont, California, was recently in trouble for teasing a boy who brought in a Barbie doll for show-and-tell in school. He teased him so much till he cried but Cameron says, that was not his intention.

After this incident, Cameron wrote an apology letter to his classmate. His mother too spoke to the parents of the boy expressing her regrets.

Cameron, however still felt bad for what he had done and wanted to know from his mom how to get the bad feeling he had go away. The solution was an anti-bully club.

Since I was sad, I thought I could make it up to him and he could feel better and I could feel better, too,” Cameron said.

This spring, Cameron launched a group with help from the boy he teased. They got 76 kids on the first day, which was beyond their expectations.

The school principal is happy since positive peer pressure has reduced bullying cases in the school. “We are so proud of Cameron and the work he has done to correct a wrong. When students talk to students, they’re at their level.” Callie Beitler said.

Cameron’s family made a video reenacting the bullying episode. Cameron’s brother played the bullied boy on the video while Cameron used a voice-over to explain his actions. “I didn’t really understand a boy bringing a doll to school so I thought it was funny. I told some friends and I convinced them to come make fun of him with me. We all circled him and teased him,” Cameron says. “I struggle to make good choices sometimes.”

His parents started a Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/CameronsAntiBullyCampaign) to help spread the anti-bullying message. They also posted the video on YouTube and it has so far attracted thousands of views. The parents have been getting many comments from people impacted by the video.

Cameron and the boy he bullied are now friends who eat together and even play together during recess. His message to other kids is. “If somebody was bullying another person or teasing, I would say stop and that’s not funny and you should accept a person for who they are. It's not too late to change."

A super predator ate an entire 9 foot great white shark in The Australian Ocean

In the depths of Australia’s Wild Ocean, a mysterious super predator exists.

A film crew tagged a number of adult great white sharks on the Australian Wild Ocean. They were studying their movement patterns along the Australia’s coast. Four months later, one of the sharks’ tag was found floating ashore and the data they discovered on it was sinister.

A super predator ate an entire 9 foot great white shark in The Australian Ocean
The tag showed a high-speed underwater chase, six hundred meters deep into the water and a rapid temperature rise. The shark and its tag appear to have been swallowed and carried in the belly of a large and mysterious predator according to the scientist. The tracking device must have been inside the digestive system of the predator until it finally got out.

Scientists In Korea Have Found Magnets To Be A Cure For Cancer

They used the magnetic field of magnets to get cancer cells to self-destruct

Apoptosis is when the old, infected and/or defective cells are in the human body are removed through programmed cell death. Rejected cells respond to particular signals that the body sends by fragmenting. By use of magnetic field, scientists in South Korea got cancer cells to self-destruct. The magnets helped to trigger apoptosis. More often, if apoptosis fails to take place, rejected cells in the body divide uncontrollably leading to development of tumors.

Prof. Jinwoo Cheon of Yonsei University, Seoul led a team of scientists in conducting experiments that used magnetic fields as a cancer cure. The experiments were on how apoptosis could be induced using magnetic field to cure bowel cancer. Iron non-particles are attached antibodies that usually bind to receptor molecules on the tumor cells. After applying the magnetic field, these molecules cluster, triggering a self-destruction signal leading to apoptosis. The scientists managed to destroy over half of these bowel cancer cells when the apoptotic clustering signal was initiated. Cells that were untreated remained unharmed and unaffected.

Related experiments have seen scientists conduct this therapy on Zebra fish. The zebra fish grew unusual tails but experiments are still ongoing. Details of this research appear in the Journal Nature Materials.
“We have demonstrated that apoptosis signaling can be turned on in-vitro (in the laboratory) and in a zebra fish in-vivo (living) model by using a magnetic switch,” the scientists say. “Our magnetic switch may be broadly applicable to any type of surface membrane receptors that exhibit cellular functions on clustering.”
This type of traditional medication may not sit well with pharmaceutical companies since they won’t earn any revenue from it. This continues to go on even though most of the drugs taken for cancer have been known to actually worsen the tumors over and over.

Cancer fighting foods that one can take include papaya leaf extract, turmeric, garlic, ginger, berries, and many more.

You May Never Drink Coke Again After Watching This Experiment

Within recent years, people have been pointing out the health concerns of taking soda, especially cola. Of great concern is how the drink wrecks the body and the high amounts taken by Americans today. The acid in coke is too much that it can be used for other purposes. This makes one question whether it?s safe for consumption. People use the drink to degrease engines, dissolve rust, clean toilets and remove paint.

This particular experiment done with the acid-ridden drink will shock you. It was done to find out what would happen if the coke is mixed with something that has the opposite of its acidic properties. Milk had this properties and therefore was the perfect choice. Using this step by step guide, they got a shocking reaction.

1. You will need coke and milk only for this experiment.

2. Pour a small amount of the milk into coke.

3. Allow the mixture to sit for 6 hours

6. The bottom however is worse because the contents look like they are from a garbage disposal!

The experiment provides proof that this drink is not safe for human consumption. If this is the type of reaction gotten when it?s mixed with milk, what about inside our bodies where we can?t see the results visually?

This video is a demonstration of the experiment and the results gotten.

At An Animal Hospital, Vets Were Not Expecting This To Show Up But It Did And They Were More Than Surprised!

Lots of animals go looking for medical services at a 24 hour animal hospital. Dogs, Cats, Sheep and the like, all need a vet at some time in their life. Sometimes people are kind enough to take injured wildlife to the vets too. This happened at a 24 hours emergency hospital, when an injured bald eagle was brought in. The eagle had broken its wing- an open fracture where the skin had been punctured by a bone. He surprised them with his weight and size. He was large and surprisingly heavy. They named him Freedom which was quite appropriate.

They suspected his broken wing was as a result of a car hit. They were however able and happy to help the eagle out. Compared to the hand of a vet, his talons were big but Freedom remained calm throughout the whole procedure. They patched him up pretty good and sent him on his way. One of those who helped out the eagle posted this update:

“Lots of you have been wanting an update. Once we've stabilized an animal/checked them over, we call the wildlife rehab centre in our city and they come p/u the animals. They provide long-term treatments and will attempt to rehab them in the wild again. A bad wing break like this (open fracture) is difficult to repair and can sometimes result in a wing amputation which prevents release. A wild bird does not always do well in captivity so, quite often, humane euthanasia is a common route. For this particular fellow, he went to the centre and I'm personally crossing my fingers that they'll be able to help him and give him another few years of life. Hopefully he stays away from vehicles in the future...”
